Ko-ko-pel-li in
Hopi "kokopilau" he is also known as Kokopele, Kokopetiyot, and
Olowlowishkya. This Flute Player is the mythical symbol of fertility,
replenishment, harvest, music and dance. He is considered a trickster.
To others he was a storyteller, teacher, healer and god of the harvest.
He
was found painted or carved on rock walls and boulders.
Kokopelli is considered a symbol of fertility that brought well being to
the people, assuring success in hunting, planting and good harvests. He
is renowned for playing his flute. He can create rain, ensuring a good
harvest.
Some
lore describes Kokopelli as a man who travels throughout the villages
carrying a bag of corn seed on his back, teaching the people how to
plant as he traveled. He was also said to have traded beads and shells
for pieces of turquoise. According to this legend, Kokopelli brought
good luck and prosperity to anyone who listened to his songs. The magic
of his flute would also stimulate creativity and help good dreams come
